Carmelo Anthony Named Player of The Week

"I was preparin' myself", Anthony told ESPN's Rachel Nichols in a conversation that aired on Tuesday.

"When you're training for a situation or know what team you're going to be on or what type of system you're going to be in, that makes it easier", Anthony said. Even during the first month of the 2019-20 season, Anthony was without a roster before the Blazers finally revived his career and stopped the 35-year-old from quitting the sport.

Last November, Carmelo Anthony and the Houston Rockets parted ways after just 10 lackluster games.

Month after month went by with no clear route back to the National Basketball Association for Anthony, with teams reluctant to give him an opportunity to prove his worth.

"I feel good", Anthony said.

As the months passed, Anthony found it harder and harder to train for hours each day when he didn't know if his work would ever pay off. "So I'd been fightin" an uphill battle anyway if I didn't go to the right situation".

The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder was released by the Texans on August 31, and signed to the Texans practice squad on September 2. They rank No. 4 out of the six teams now occupying an AFC playoff spot in field goals made from 40 yards or beyond.

To date, Anthony has been a lot better than most thought he may very well be, and he continued his spectacular run for the Path Blazers on Friday with an environment friendly 23-point efficiency in a 107-103 victory over the Bulls. He won Player of the Week honors on Monday after averaging 22.3 points per game in three games (several players had better numbers though; the award was more about honoring his comeback).

Less than two weeks after joining the Portland Trail Blazers, Carmelo Anthony was recognized for his strong performances with his new team.

"I say that because I know what I can do", Anthony said. So a situation like Portland, where I could just come in and just play my game and have a group of guys that really want me, and the organization that want me.

"I'm happy for him because he stayed in shape and he did all the things he needed to do to get back in", Clippers coach Doc Rivers said.

"I never called him and said, "What're we doin"?' Or "I need you to do this for me, ' " Anthony said". This is what we expect of you.
