Melania Trump Unveils This Year's Patriotic White House Christmas Decorations

First Lady Melania Trump has transitioned the Trump White House Christmas aesthetic from last year's daunting Yuletide Black Lodge theme to something like a repeat of 2017's cold, detached Fortress of Solitude motif.

Last year, the First Lady was mocked for her choice of red Christmas decorations - people on Twittermocked a video of her walking through the "blood-red trees", comparing the scene to everything from "The Handmaid's Tale to ground meat".

The East Wing at the White House has stars hanging from the ceiling and white arches.

And even Larry the cat seems to be pleased with the festive make-over.

Melania Trump has filled the White House with Christmas cheer and a spectacular display of her own design. "In real life they look even more lovely".

Mrs Trump inspected the decorations themed "The Spirit of America" in a video released via Twitter late on Sunday (Dec 1).

At 18 feet tall, the official White House Christmas is blossoming with handmade paper flowers that pays homage to the distinctive floral emblem of each state and territory, on display inside the Blue Room.

A tree dedicated to Gold Star families that lost an immediate relative during military service stands at the beginning of the hallway while a tree decorated with the Trump family ornament - an American flag this year - glistens at the end of the colonnade.

She continued: "No matter which state they call home, many Americans share a strong set of values and deep appreciation for the traditions and history of our great nation".

Guests entering the East Room are greeted by four star-spangled Christmas trees, adorned with golden eagle toppers.

The White House previewed the decorations for journalists on Monday before Trump and the first lady were to depart for London.

It also shows her adjusting a few ornaments on the Christmas trees, including a collection of Scrabble letters that spell out "Be Best", her anti-bullying campaign.

Trump's decor seemed to veer from previous first ladies, who often had a homespun approach.

"'The Spirit of America' is shining in the White House!" Michelle Obama's gingerbread White House often had a replica of the family dog, B0.

A White House made of gingerbread features landmarks from around the country in the State Dining Room. And for the family's ornament she chose a metal American flag, that looked as if it was rippling in the wind.
