Slovakia remembered the World AIDS Day

A Richmond clinic is celebrating their 20th anniversary of providing services for people affected by HIV and AIDS, and combating the virus' stigma just in time for World AIDS Day on December 1.

Significant advances in treatment and medication are allowing many people with HIV/AIDS to live longer lives, but scientists have yet to find a complete cure.

This is mainly because the risk of acquiring HIV is 22 times higher among men who have sex with men and among people who inject drugs, 21 times higher for sex workers and 12 times higher for transgender people.

World AIDS Day launched in 1988, and much has changed after three decades.

A total of 38 million people are living with HIV / AIDS, according to the latest worldwide statistics, and despite global efforts to eradicate the disease and the possibility of infection by 2030, the resources available to treat patients decreased by $1billion in 2018. "With the communities at the forefront and the governments keeping their promises, we will be able to end AIDS", said Byanyima.

HIV, or the human immunodeficiency virus, is a virus that attacks and can destroy the body's immune system, leading to the disease AIDS.

Furthermore, the Deputy President said that the anti-retroviral treatment programme has resulted to an increase in life expectancy of our people and low levels of mother-to-child HIV transmission rates.

An estimated 1.1 million adults and adolescents in the USA were living with HIV at the end of 2015, according to the CDC.

It had also supported Ghana since 1990 with about 85 million dollars to fight HIV among her citizenry, adding that, the USA was prepared to back Ghana until it had successfully and wholly eradicate the menace.

The HIV new infection cases mostly registered in Kachin, northern Shan states, Sagaing and Yangon regions, respectively.

One of the new plan's strongest goals is to ensure that medical services are provided to HIV-infected patients who are reluctant to use facilities due to breaches of confidentiality and discrimination from health care professionals, as revealed by several local reports.
