When will Last Christmas come to DVD and Blu-ray?

When will Last Christmas come to DVD and Blu-ray?

Hung in the loosest possible sense on Michael's music, it sees 20-something Kate (played by Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke) muddling through one of life's major troughs in the wake of a life-changing incident.

Clarke stars as Kate, a refugee from the former Yugoslavia who was brought to England by her parents when she was young. Her mom (Thompson) frets about Kate's health and tends to say the wrong thing, Kate's sister Marta (Lydia Leonard) is brimming with sibling resentment, and Dad (Boris Isakovic) spends so much time as a cab driver that he nearly never sees anybody.

In the end, Last Christmas had all of the pieces for the flawless holiday film.

Dame Emma co-stars as her mother in the Christmas romantic comedy, and Clarke believes the film reflects her views. Tom encourages Kate to look up, metaphorically and physically, but the first time she does so a bird poops directly in her eye. Their relationship is complex and is one of the reasons Kate is so complex.

An aspiring singer, Kate works as a customer service elf at the most Christmassy of Christmas shops in Covent Garden, and sees herself as being like George, misunderstood and under-appreciated. She is falling hard for him and is happier the next day and, as it is holiday-time, Kate decides to sing Christmas carols for donations outside the homeless shelter. She works at that Christmas shop owned by Santa (Michelle Yeoh, who is not at all the picture of what that name typically conjures, but go with it), a gaudy, tacky place that manages to keep the lights on by selling the silliest holiday junk one can imagine.

Something about the way Thompson can write lines like that, make me smile.

Presents are in order, then, for Emma Thompson, whose screenplay for Last Christmas - aided by her husband Greg Wise and co-writer Bryony Kimmings - goes a long way toward making this holiday confection not only presentable but often downright pleasant.

But back to those mysterious health issues.

It wasn't until we were in Las Vegas for CinemaCon, and having a cigar near him and director Paul Fieg...and as I was wondering why he was wearing such an ugly red shirt...that I too, declared him the most handsome man I have ever seen in person. She even anglicized her name from Katarina in protest of her Yugoslav roots. Everything about Kate has felt wrong since a year ago when she had a life-saving operation that should have made her better, but somehow made her worse.

The movie had a few amusing lines. Toothsome Tom seems too good to be true, but, of course, he harbors secrets. There are amusing moments here and there, but much of the film is so repetitive that it nearly felt exhausting. Hasty edits leave some scenes dangling and real discussion/resolution suffers as a result. Her successful lawyer sister Marta (Lydia Leonard) tells her to call her mom.

Set up such together, and "Last Christmas" isn't the sequential construction system item it could have been, yet nor is it as uncommon as it apparently proposed to be.
