Stafford’s consecutive games streak ends due to fractured back

Last week, Stafford spoke of texting with Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, whose streak was ended recently at 154 games by an ankle injury.

Stafford's starting streak was the second-longest active streak - Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has started 218 straight - and the sixth-longest of all-time by a quarterback, dating back to January 2, 2011. It dates back to the 2018 season, where he reportedly played through breaks - all while not missing a game. The 31-year-old had started 136 regular-season games for Detroit before he was discarded for the team's Week 10 game in Chicago.

Stafford has been on the injury report since Week 4 with a hip issue, but he had only been limited in one practice - back on September 27 - until this week, when the back injury also popped up.

Stafford has played through the pain of back injuries before - he did it during the 2018 season - but the presence of actual broken bones appears to have put the kibosh on that. Stafford practiced with the team on Friday, but won't be able to play. He had been listed as questionable on the injury report and was practicing through the week while hoping to play through the pain.

"It means a lot, obviously", Stafford said. "I'm not really anxious about that".

November 10: Stafford is ruled out for the Bears game, as doctors want to perform further tests on his back. "Something different, but I'm totally good".

ESPN reported that Stafford's injury would keep him out of play for up to three weeks, although he was considered week by week.

Stafford's wife, Kelly, posted a tribute to her husband on Instagram on Sunday morning.

November 9: ESPN reports Stafford is being told not to play against the Bears, but the QB wants to play through the pain of the back injury.
