Federer prevails over Nadal, gets Djokovic in final

It was a joy to play against Rafa at Roland Garros [where Nadal won their semi-final in straight sets on his favored clay].

Once that had gone so had his chances and Querrey.

The second-seeded Federer outlasted No. 3 Nadal 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Centre Court on Friday to reach his 12th final at the All England Club, where he will seek a record-extending ninth title against top-seeded Novak Djokovic on Sunday.

Nadal carried that momentum with him and broke again two games later before serving out the set and levelling the match up after nearly 90 minutes on court.

So, the 2.62 about no tie breaks is certainly an option again in a tournament that plenty of players have complained about in terms of the slowness of the courts.

But Djokovic was relentless and tightened his grip, breaking twice for a 4-1 lead, and eventually claimed victory on a fifth match point.

Agut won the ATP 250 title at Qatar, as well as being a quarter finalist at the Australian Open (his first final eight at a major). Bautista Agut's is one of the very few players who possesses the consistency, athleticism and sheer bloody-mindedness to duel with Djokovic from the baseline.

That would never again be an issue, because a retractable roof and artificial lights have been in place at the tournament's main stadium since the following year.

Fed's backhand has certainly looked off this tournament and you've got to wonder if it'll be able to cope with the barrage it's likely to get from Nadal on Friday. He dropped the first set against Nishikori, but then dropped just nine total games over the next three sets on his way to a dominant victory. I don't think it's a good thing that Wimbledon is the only one with its own seeding formula.

World Cup, Wimbledon Finals Clash With British GP, Leave Lewis Hamilton Baffled
On Tuesday, it was announced that bosses from Silverstone and F1 had secured a new deal after two years of negotiations. There is excitement and adrenaline going and there are pressures. "This weekend it will be closer ".

Djokovic leads 7-3 head-to-head, but Bautista Agut won their two matchups this season, both on hard courts.

Similarly to David Goffin, RBA has the game on this surface, with his flat hitting and good movement, to cause some damage to the defences of Djokovic, but mentally I'd probably put him in a similar bracket to Goffin.

He'll play either Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal in what will be his 25th grand slam final.

"The opportunities to play against each other are becoming less, but we still here".

It seemed certain that Djokovic was going to spend a lot less time on court in this semi-final compared to 12 months ago when he needed five sets and five hours and 15 minutes to beat Nadal.

Even HE didn't really expect his visit to the All England Club to last this long: The Spaniard was supposed to meet a half-dozen of his buddies on the island of Ibiza this weekend for his bachelor party.

After watching Bautista Agut's shot hit the net tape, pop in the air and slide over for a victor that tied things at a set apiece, Centre Court spectators stood and cheered, perhaps envisioning a tight match.

It looked as though the Spaniard's fight was finally ebbing away but he made his last stand as Djokovic served for the match at 5-2 but on his fifth match point the world No 1 struck the final blow.

If he doesn't it could be another one-sided affair for an elite player this Wimbledon.
