The possible truth about the Laurent Koscielny saga

The possible truth about the Laurent Koscielny saga

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel with the squad for their pre-season tour to the United States, the Premier League club said on Thursday.

Koscielny has one year remaining on his contract with the Gunners.

"On Wednesday, Koscielny communicated his intention not to join the squad on their pre-season tour to the U.S. - and on arrival at the Gunners' London Colney training ground this morning he confirmed this decision".

However, Laurent Koscielny is now desperate to leave Arsenal, a club which he has captained for four years.

Arsenal have a big problem on their hands - and his name is Laurent Koscielny.

To say that Laurent Koscielny's Arsenal career has been impressive would be an understatement.

Tempting as it might be to foil the leakers, and install a career civil servant, it is probably irresponsible to pre-empt Johnson. As Brexit looms, Britain is also hoping for a free trade deal with the USA to mitigate the impact of leaving the European Union.

Bordeaux have reportedly offered him a three-year contract, prompting him to take action to move back to his country.

Arsenal should probably cut their losses here and let Koscielny leave on a free, as overall he's been a good servant to the club and they are unlikely to receive that much for him in terms of a transfer fee.

The centre-back suffered a serious knee injury against Atletico Madrid in May 2018, ruling him out of France's victorious World Cup winning campaign that summer, before he returned to action last December.

However, the report from the Mirror adds they wanted to reduce his basic pay and make it up with performance-related bonuses while retaining an option to release him next summer.

One man who was able to sum up the situation pretty well, annoyingly for Arsenal supporters, was ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker, who Tweeted: "That's leadership for you".

The 33-year-old has been linked with a return to France with Bordeaux.
