Motorcyclist riding on I-95 dies after lightning strikes helmet

A motorcyclist's helmet after he was struck by lightning, while riding in Florida on I-95. Reports confirmed that the victim was from North Carolina, but his name has yet to be released to the public.

A photo posted on the Florida Highway Patrol's official Twitter page showed the biker's shattered helmet with cracks and burns from the bolt.

A 45-year-old man is dead after lightning struck him while he was riding his motorcycle.

An off-duty Virginia trooper reportedly saw the strike happen.

A motorcyclist was killed in Volusia County on Sunday when their helmet was struck by lightning, according to Florida Highway Patrol. "Unfortunately he did not survive the crash", authorities wrote.

The Vaisala and the National Lightning Detection Network recorded a total of 1,385,710 strikes a year ago, including seven lightning fatalities.

It's unclear whether the cause of death was the lightning strike or the subsequent crash. Texas had the second highest number of fatalities from lightning strikes with a total of 20.

In 2018, the state reported the highest density of lightning strikes, WCTV TV reported.
