The record for the highest ODI score has been broken twice since the last World Cup, in England, by England - 444/3 against Pakistan (in August 2016) was topped by 481/6 against Australia (in June last year) - with Trent Bridge, Nottingham hosting both matches.

They won the 2018 World Cup qualifier tournament, beating the West Indies in the final, to book their ticket to England and Wales.

Nabi and Rashid have missed the ODI matches due to duty in the Indian Primer League for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Captain Eoin Morgan is suspended after England's slow over-rate in Bristol and will be replaced as skipper by Jos Buttler, who was rested for the third game.

Bairstow was one of three players to miss training at Trent Bridge on Thursday and it is likely that all three will be rested.

That opens the door for James Vince to join forces with opener Jason Roy at the top of the order, while paceman Mark Wood is in line to make his first appearance of the series after recovering from a persistent ankle problem.

After struggling to restrict the Pakistan batsmen, England had to chase 359 to win and they did just that thanks to some superb hitting led by Jonny Bairstow who hit a magnificent 128 from just 93 balls.

"Jofra has natural raw pace whereas I feel I have to bust a gut to get it up there", Wood said.

The thrashing by English batsmen in a T20 worldwide and two ODIs has alarmed the selectors, who were initially not keen on picking Amir for the showpiece owing to lack of form.

"They are also keeping a close look at Asif Ali who has scored two successive half-centuries in the ODIs and if he continues his form he might well be included in the World Cup squad but at whose cost this has to be decided", he added.

Tom Harrison, the European Central Bank chief executive, sounded confident: "We have had to change the scale of the scorecards for the World Cup so we go up to 500".

"I have to put every ounce of effort into trying to bowl fast and he does it make it look really easy, which is a bit frustrating", laughed Wood.
