3 killed after small plane collides with helicopter in Nepal

The Himalayan Times said that according to Suman Pandey, Chief Executive Officer at Fish Tail Air, the incident occurred at around 9:10 am at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, a major gateway to Mt Everest.

The incident took place at Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla in Nepal. The Summir Air plane was reportedly en route to Kathmandu from Lukla. The injured include Captain RB Rokaya, who was flying the aircraft, Captain Chet Gurung of Manang Air, who was inside the helicopter, a security official and a flight attendant.

Among the dead were the pilot of the plane and two police officers who were near the parked helicopter.

The uncontrolled aircraft had hit the helicopters of Manang Air and Shree Air.

The Lukla Airport has a track record for being the World's Most Dangerous Airport with a small runway (527 m) flanked by Mountains and treacherous terrain.

In May 2017, a cargo flight was landing in Lukla when it lost altitude and crashed into a mountain below the runway, killing both pilots. The European Union has banned all Nepalese airlines from its airspace over safety concerns.

Earlier, in February Seven people, including the country's tourism minister when a helicopter crashed in the hilly east.
