Trump to award Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom

It captured the attention of the country, and he'll be rewarded with a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Trump, an avid golfer, and Woods have played together in the past including in February when the pair joined golf great Jack Nicklaus for a round at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida.

President Donald Trump announced Monday via Twitter he'll present the golf superstar with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. George H.W. Bush presented the medals to Nicklaus and Palmer; Barack Obama to Sifford. President Trump, with whom Woods is reportedly on good terms, was very excited to watch his friend win the tournament and it looks like he's still riding that wave.

Woods' victory was his first major title since winning the 2008 U.S. Open, and it came 22 years after his first career win at the Masters in 1997.

And Trump tweeted about the Masters several times over the weekend, writing on Sunday afternoon that Woods was "a truly Great Champion!"

Woods won the 2019 Masters on Sunday, ending his 11-year major-championship drought and earning renewed acclaim from around the sports world to the halls of political power and beyond.
