Chris Davis Finally Snaps Historic Hitless Streak

In the eighth inning, Davis drilled Boston reliever Heath Hembree's full-count pitch for a two-run shot into the right-field bleachers for a 6-1 Orioles lead. The lefty slugger finished last season with a.168 batting average, the worst among qualified hitters in major league history. Against the Red Sox, no less. They have been a favorite of greater than -200 just twice previously during this span, beating Baltimore 12-1 in 2009, and Toronto 12-7 in 2005.

Back in 2013, Davis won the Silver Slugger Award, when he put the entire league on notice with 53 homers and 138 RBI. He broke the record for the longest hitless streak in baseball in early April.

Not only was it a hit, it was a two-run single!

The average donation to the page, which was created by family friends, was just over $30, but the good wishes were priceless. Landen "has a very long road to recovery ahead of him". "Their family is always so generous to others", he wrote.

In his 33 season at-bats before Saturday's game, Davis had struck out 16 times and walked five times. Davis drove in four runs, and was instrumental in Baltimore's 9-5 win. Chris Davis has gotten a hit!

Where does Davis go from here? Because of that, there's no downside to the team putting Davis in the lineup every day and seeing if he can post respectable numbers again.
