Melbourne shooting outside Prahran nightclub Love Machine leaves four men in hospital

A drive-by shooting outside a popular Melbourne nightclub in Australia early Sunday left one man dead, another critically wounded and two others injured, police said.

At about 3:10 am on Sunday four people were hit by gunshots outside Love Machine Nightclub in Prahran and transported to Alfred Hospital.

Australian media reported that the shooter, who is believed to be on the run, apparently fired from a vehicle as it was passing by the Love Machine nightclub, which was hosting a night for "old school groovers".

A 29-year-old man and a 50-year-old man both sustained non-life threatening injuries. Police later confirmed that one man, 37 years old, had died.

A police spokeswoman told AFP the shooting was not believed to be linked to terrorism.

"These things are still incredibly rare and there's nothing to indicate at the moment that this is part of a broader agenda", said Andrew Stamper of Victoria state police.

Police are yet to make any arrests over the incident and are urging anyone with footage to contact them.

Their focus was on bloodstained clothing left lying in the middle of the road alongside bullet casings outside the entrance of the second storey nightclub.

Blood could be seen on the footpath more than 100 metres from the nightclub. Officers are photographing gutters and drains outside the nightclub as they continue searching for clues. "We are all in shock but we are all okay".

In a statement, Victoria Police said the exact circumstances surround the shooting were still being established.

Sarah Guest, who lived a block away from the scene, said she wasn't shocked, given all the drug use she had witnessed in the area.

Edie, who lived in the nearby commission flats, said she didn't hear anything when the shooting occurred.
