Hudson-Odoi earns first England call-up

Hudson-Odoi earns first England call-up

Despite having yet to start a Premier League match, Hudson-Odoi has scored five times in 19 matches in all competitions this season, initially earning him a place in Boothroyd's England U21 side before being upgraded by Gareth Southgate.

"I'm delighted to get the call".

This is all unlikely to sit well with Blues manager Maurizio Sarri who has spent the past couple of months and weeks bemoaning the hype and expectation being lumped on Hudson-Odoi's young shoulders.

"Wherever he goes, he is good enough in my opinion from what I have seen potentially to be a regular at whatever team he plays at".

Southampton's James Ward-Prowse has also been drafted into the squad after the Manchester City duo John Stones and Fabian Delph withdrew because of injury.

West Ham star Rice was on the original list of Southgate's called-upon players, while Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi was a late inclusion following some drop-outs.

And still a part of the Ireland youth setup. "But I'm only 25, and I think as a learning curve for me". Following the game with the Czech Republic , England travel to Podgorica to face Montenegro on Monday.

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has been called up to the England senior squad for the first time. I was delighted. It's a dream come true.

Southgate drafted in Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse earlier on Monday and 18-year-old Hudson-Odoi will also have the chance to impress as he pushes for an worldwide debut.

Hudson-Odoi added: 'Everybody here is very humble and they're very nice. "No one has an ego here so hopefully I'll get to know more of the boys here".

Loftus-Cheek came on as a second-half substitute as Chelsea lost to Everton on Sunday and has now been replaced by former Young Lions team-mate Ward-Prowse.

The 24-year-old has led Southampton's battle for Premier League survival with goals in his past three games, including brilliant free-kicks against Manchester United and Tottenham. He is, I would say, a world-class deliverer of set-plays.
