NWS issues flash flood emergency in Fremont

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a statement today (Friday) saying: "Widespread and extremely risky flooding will continue today and tonight".

As of now, several area rivers are expected to be into minor to moderate flood stage by Friday and Saturday. "Eventually as we head into next week, we should see more and more of the rivers start to recede below flood stage".

Grand River (West Montrose): Flows in the Grand River through West Montrose are expected to increase, peaking in Warning Zone 1 on Friday morning.

The National Weather Service's hydrograph for the Missouri River at Nebraska City indicates record flooding at Nebraska City.

"Anyone with interests along impacted rivers should monitor closely/take action", the weather service said. Floodwalls protect city to 20 feet.

Officials in Sarpy County, south of Omaha, said Saturday that power might be shut off for safety reasons in communities along the Missouri, Platte and Elkhorn rivers. The National Weather Service in Hastings, Nebraska is taking over duties from the displaced NWS employees in Omaha while the flood threat remains. Thousands of homes and businesses were still without power Friday in Colorado, mostly in the Denver area, although crews worked throughout the day to restore electricity.

At least four deaths were linked to the weather system. SEMA also supplied St. Joseph with a sandbagging machine. Flooding, hail and strong winds also were reported in parts of the two states.
