Chicago Police open internal investigation into alleged leaks in Jussie Smollett case

Chicago Police open internal investigation into alleged leaks in Jussie Smollett case

"When there are allegations of information being leaked, an internal investigation has been opened and we are also looking at our vulnerabilities."

Smollett maintains he is innocent and claims he was attacked by homophobic, racist assailants who shouted: 'This is MAGA country!' while beating him, putting a noose around his neck and pouring bleach on him.

Local affiliate sources from Chicago are reporting that dozens of workers, including nurses, were immediately fired and walked out of Northwestern Hospital for inappropriately, viewing, accessing, or otherwise reviewing the records of the now controversial actor, Jussie Smollett.

Jussie Smollett has plead not guilty to filing a false police report, and remains free on bond.

He initially claimed to have been assaulted by two men who approached him yelling racial slurs.

The Chicago Police Department is conducting an internal investigation to determine who anonymously leaked information about the Jussie Smollett case to members of the press.

Smollett's claims had drawn so much sympathy from celebrities and the internet-with Smollett even sitting down for an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts to retell his alleged attack story...

One of the nurses said it was a misunderstanding, and claimed she never even accessed Smollett's chart, but she was sacked last week and believes many other nurses and staffers were fired for the same reason.

Smollett himself was later arrested, after Chicago police determined that the incident was a hoax that Smollett allegedly orchestrated.

The workers were terminated for gaining access to the actor's medical chart when he visited the hospital's emergency room.

However, truth has become a spotlighted issue in Chicago, when it comes to Smollett's case, and Northwestern Hospital's stance is that it clearly does not believe this nurse. She said she was not asked any questions, and never had a chance to offer an explanation. That same nurse believes others, like her, were fired for the same reason.

This nurse who was sacked plans to appeal her case with Northwestern Hospital.

Smollett has maintained his innocence.
