Rain, hail delays final round at Pebble Beach

Rain, hail delays final round at Pebble Beach

"I get where Paul is coming from", Mickelson said.

Mickelson tied Mark O'Meara's record with his fifth victory in the AT&T Pebble Beach, the first one also a Monday finish in 1998 because of bad weather, with one big difference - that Monday finish was more than six months later in August. It's where his grandfather, Al Santos, was among the first caddies when the course opened in 1919, and Mickelson still uses as a marker the 1900 silver dollar his grandfather kept in his pocket to remind him he was not poor.

What excites him is that he's putting as well as he has at any time in his career and has found an extra "5-6 miles per hour swing speed" he believes that could be the key at the Masters, even if he conceded that winning 50 times on the PGA Tour might prove a challenge.

'He's a good guy and I enjoy our friendship. The 48-year-old Mickelson said, "I have pretty good vision".

"I'm going to spend the next few weeks working on driving, irons and short game but my putting needs to improve". He says he had as much fun winning at Pebble Beach as when he finished one shot behind in the Desert Classic three weeks ago.

"It has been a special week for me", Mickelson said.

Both Mickelson and Casey will be playing in this week's Genesis Open, alongside the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

Angel Di Maria has last laugh with PSG on Old Trafford return
Di Maria rose to the occasion amid the jeers to superbly provide assists for Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe in a comfortable. Later, he blew kisses to the stands and imitated drinking from a bottle that was hurled at him by a fan.

He is now ranked 17th in the world and has positioned himself for a run at another Presidents Cup team.

At 13-under, he can not finish worse than a tie for fourth place.

The popular lefthander has been a US Open regular since Irwin's victory nearly 29 years ago and he's finished second an incredible six times in the event. Six runner-up finishes, some in the most heartbreaking fashion, dot his career, the tournament keeping him from a career Grand Slam.

Mickelson will return to play the last two holes on Monday holding a three-shot lead over playing partner Paul Casey. They were waiting to tee off when sunshine gave way to a hail storm that pounded the golf course as players ducked under umbrellas.

Pebble, of course, would provide the flawless symmetry for such a storybook triumph.

Inevitably, the question of the U.S. Open arose quickly. All four players return to Pebble along with numerous game's best, including Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau and Jason Day.

Mickelson already made his par on the 16th and was 6 under for the day, with no bogeys on his card, and 18-under par for the tournament.
