GM and Amazon Eye Investment In Rivian

The deal would give Amazon and GM minority stakes in Rivian, the sources said.

Both Amazon and GM have their in-house electric auto efforts in the works, but neither company has jumped into the market of electric pickups yet. It would be a major boost for the Plymouth, Michigan-based startup, which aspires to be the first carmaker to the United States consumer market with an electric pickup.

The California-based company has revealed two all-electric concepts, the R1T and R1S, that focus on the popular pickup and SUV segments. It expects to begin production of its W-15 electric pickup for commercial customers in the second half of this year, and for private customers in early 2020.

Scaringe has described the Rivian vehicle's platform as a "skateboard" that packages the drive units, battery pack, suspension system, brakes and cooling system all below wheel height to allow for more storage space and greater stability due to a lower centre of gravity.

Rivian has also said it will license its technology to other automakers. GM CEO Mary Barra has said it has given a "tiny bit" of thought to developing all-electric pickups.

Manchester United vs. Paris Saint-Germain
The Argentinian arrived at United from Real Madrid for a whopping £59.7million - at the time a record signing for a British club. United's rebirth under Solskjaer couldn't have been any more poorly timed as far as PSG counterpart Thomas Tuchel is concerned.

Last November, GM announced a controversial restructuring that sees several gas-powered sedan models cut from its lineup and leaves five North American assembly plants with no product to build as the automaker shifts toward an EV future. "While we believe electric vehicle pickups are not the near-term future for GM (demand isn't there at a profitable price point), it is their long-term future", Evercore ISI analyst Arndt Ellinghorst wrote in a note.

GM now sells the battery-powered Chevrolet Bolt electric crossover and has promised to introduce 20 new all-electric models by 2023, so far confirming only that one of them will be a Cadillac utility vehicle.

Amazon has also invested in self-driving auto startup Aurora Innovation Inc, in a $530 million funding round announced last week. Standard Chartered has provided the company with debt financing of $200 million while ALJ has invested nearly $500 million in the company; Sumitomo has invested an undisclosed amount.

Popstar Rihanna, whose boyfriend Hassan Jameel is deputy vice chairman of Rivian investor Abdul Latif Jameel Co., attended the company's November launch event in Los Angeles.
