Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar Announces Run for President

The race to become the first female U.S. leader is heating up, with Minnesota Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar announcing her candidacy for the 2020 presidential election.

Hot chocolate, biscuits and cider were also provided for the event on the bank of the MS river. Campaign aides handed out hot cider and cookies.

Klobuchar now joins prominent Democratic figures who have announced presidential bids including Indian American Kamala Harris, New Jersey's Cory Booker, New York's Kirsten Gillibrand and Massachusetts' Elizabeth Warren.

Klobuchar aimed to distinguish herself with a Midwestern earnestness, as she made clear in her speech.

Instead, she is likely to highlight her record of working across the aisle at times. Klobuchar had worked with then Sen.

Klobuchar endorsed universal health care in her announcement speech, an issue that will be heavily debated during the Democratic nominating race. But with a message of unity and Minnesota grit, Klobuchar said she was up to the task.

Here are the first entrants in the presidential race, 21 months before the election. "If somebody doesn't want to come to an event that is outside in Minnesota, do they really live here?"

Sen. Amy Klobuchar announced Sunday that she is running for president.

William Brueske, who moved to Mankato a year ago, said he tends to lean Republican, but has voted for Democrats in the past. "Amy showed that the rule of law should still matter and, as she said, the Constitution does not say, 'We the ruling party, ' it says, "We the people'". She's also taken criticism from the left, and once angered environmentalists with efforts to remove Minnesota wolves from the endangered species list.

A US Navy veteran who put his mayoral duties on hold to serve in Afghanistan, Buttigieg would become the first openly gay nominee of any major party. "In the Fight Club era of American politics will "Minnesota nice" work?"

"I have high expectations for the people that work for me", she told NBC News after her speech, "but I have high expectations for this country".

Klobuchar celebrated a reelection victory in 2018, winning over 60 percent of the vote.

University of Minnesota student Noelle Dyalsingh said she's looking for an inclusive candidate.

She never mentioned President Trump by name, but said she would not conduct "foreign policy by tweet".

Klobuchar is now party of a group of White House hopefuls that includes other high-flying female USA senators, charismatic military veterans and a young gay mayor.

In her remarks on Sunday, Klobuchar called for passing a constitutional amendment to overturn the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision, restoring the Voting Rights Act, and passing legislation to automatically register people to vote when they turn 18. He is a retired journalist and columnist for the Minneapolis StarTribune. She's talked about holding some low-paying jobs as she grew up, which led her to advocate a minimum wage increase.

"I'm a fan of Klobuchar", says DFL state Sen. "If there are other pie cutters in the U.S. Senate, I'd like to meet them". "He never graduated from high school".

Why she's running (in her own words).

The backdrop for her rally was the Interstate 35 bridge over the Mississippi. She began her career in private practice before being elected narrowly as Hennepin County attorney in 1998. "Also, she's been here quite often during floods and other times". Including, Klobuchar proudly points out whenever given the opportunity, 42 that were won by Trump.
