O'Rourke, Trump to headline dueling Texas border town rallies

O'Rourke, Trump to headline dueling Texas border town rallies

"It is correct that Customs and Border Patrol officials would more barriers on the U.S./Mexico border", Tapper said.

Donning "Make America great again" hats, chanting "build a wall" and waving American flags, the demonstrators linked arms near an open section of the border at Sunland Park, northwest of El Paso.

On the other side of the debate, Trump's campaign put out a video highlighting the need for a wall and featuring El Paso residents. The events, which will feature music and other speakers, are meant to highlight El Paso's strength as a binational community - and push back against Trump's long-sought border wall.

"He's making an effort to use this community as a prop to make his case for a border wall", O'Rourke said. During the event, he will be speaking to counter what he calls the "lies and a false narrative about the U.S. -Mexico border" that the president will promulgate.

The march, organized by Women's March El Paso, is being billed as a "March for Truth: Stop the Wall, Stop the Lies".

Rafael Benitez says goalkeeper Martin Dubravka had to be stronger after Wolves' controversial late equaliser denied Newcastle victory at Molineux.

In an interview Monday on Fox News, the commissioner of Texas' Department of Agriculture touted the effectiveness of fencing in El Paso, saying that crime dropped significantly in the city.

CNN noted at the time that the connection was inaccurate, and Margo, a Republican, told CNN's Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto on "Newsroom" Monday that the drop in crime came prior to the barrier construction, and that Trump was "wrong" when he claimed otherwise.

Trump could either impose a new shutdown or declare a national emergency, giving himself power to take the money from the military, although this would likely provoke lawsuits and even more political recriminations. And he hasn't given a major rally speech since his unsuccessful but close run for Senate against Republican incumbent Ted Cruz.

President Trump is gearing up for his first rally of the 2020 campaign season. The rally is being led by former Democratic congressman Beto O'Rourke, who represented the area until stepping down from Congress earlier this year and is reportedly weighing a 2020 White House bid.

Margo said Monday he was "pleased" Trump was coming to El Paso for a rally and that he hoped to speak with him. "Don't take the bait".
