Schiff vows to continue investigation into Trump finances, Russian Federation links

On talk show appearances on NBC's "Meet the Press" and "Fox News Sunday", acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said "you absolutely cannot" rule out the possibility that the government may shutter again.

"The president is going to build the wall", Mulvaney explained, according to Fox News.

"The media was able to get my work schedule, something very easy to do, but it should have been reported as a positive, not negative", the president posted on Twitter Sunday. "We've got some problems with the Democrats" over funding for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations. One of the people familiar with the situation said that was the issue that led to the impasse.

In particular, Schiff said the House panel plans to investigate Trump's two-decade relationship with Deutsche Bank, a German institution that has paid hundreds of millions of dollars in penalties in recent years after admitting its role in a $10 billion money laundering scheme that allowed clients in Russian Federation to move vast sums overseas. While the Democrats want the number of beds to be lowered, the Republicans advocate its increase as part of an effort to speed up immigrant deportations.

"I actually believe they want a Shutdown", Trump said in a separate tweet, suggesting it was a bad week for Democrats with the controversy in Virginia and good economic news for the USA economy, and they want to change the subject.

Mr. Mulvaney said Mr. Trump will wait for Congress' offer and then figure out how to cobble together the funds he needs to build the wall he promised voters in 2016.

In an interview on CBS News' "Face The Nation", the head of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus said the experts are the ones who best know where money is needed. "But they also demanded the limit on ICE beds, as a way to force the agency to focus on detaining migrants with criminal records instead of people who have overstayed their visas".

But within that limit, they've also proposed limiting to 16,500 the number for immigrants here illegally caught within the US, including criminals.

As most budget disputes go, differences over hundreds of millions of dollars are usually imperceptible and easily solved.

The Homeland Security Department and other agencies are operating on a short-term spending bill that Trump signed January 25, when he ended the nation's longest ever government shutdown after 35 days.

Mulvaney spoke as Congressional negotiators continue talks on a security plan that includes some sort of barrier, whether wall, fence or other, on the border, hoping to complete a deal. "We got to start movement", he said.

"While the reports and recommendations are being finalized, I am happy to announce the President of the United States is in very good health and I anticipate he will remain so for the duration of his Presidency, and beyond", Conley wrote in a statement. "And it just seems over the last 24 hours or so the goalposts have been moving from the Democrats".
