New Zealand survive tight close to claim India T20 series 2-1

For New Zealand, Blair Tickner has been given his maiden national cap and he replaces rested Lockie Ferguson in the line-up. In their allotted quota of 20 overs, New Zealand ended up scoring 212-4.

The morale-boosting victory for New Zealand came after being whipped 4-1 by India in the earlier one-day worldwide series.

New Zealand next host Bangladesh in a series of three ODIs and three Tests. Kuldeep Yadav has been brought in place of Yuzvendra Chahal.

India won the toss and opted to chase, as they had done throughout in both Wellington and Auckland, but another excellent opening stand between Munro and Seifert soon made it clear the chase would be a sizeable one.

Dinesh Karthik refused a single off the third ball of the final over which would have put Krunal Pandya on strike, leaving India needing 13 from three.

He said that the process being used for the ratification is demeaning for parliament and "unprecedented". It says the alliance is undermining security in the region by taking in Balkan members.

All-rounder Vijay Shankar, who came in to bat at No. 3, top-scored for India scoring 43 (28) with the help of five fours and two sixes.

Post Shankar, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya have blast innings with 28 (12) and 21 (11) runs respectively. While the southpaw started off his innings with a boundary and two sixes, Pandya too hit a six off his very first ball.

Having levelled the score 1-1 in Auckland, India will look to become the first team to seal a T20I series in New Zealand when they head into the third and final match at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday.

It was also a vital knock from Munro, whose position in the New Zealand side ahead of the World Cup had been in question after a string of failures in the ODI and Twenty20 matches against India. The denied single by Karthik also attracted a lot of traction on Twitter but one has to agree that he did his best to take India to their first T20I series win against New Zealand.

Runs came thick and fast as skipper Kane Williamson contributed 27 and Colin de Grandhomme produced a crucial 30-run cameo off 16-balls.
