The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira is leaving the show after season 10

AMC is now working on no less than three Walking Dead feature length films, which will star Andrew Lincoln.

Gurira is the latest in a string of Walking Dead stars to leave the show in the past year or so, following Chandler Riggs, who was written off in Season 8, and Lincoln and Lauren Cohan, who both left partway through Season 9, though Cohan may return in some capacity in Season 10.

Before she was General Okoye, the leader Wankanda's badass all-woman Army in Black Panther, Danai Gurira was Michonne on the hit series The Walking Dead. Gurira's new deal with AMC will definitely make it easier for the actress to pursue other ventures while having the option to return and portray the popular character that opened so many doors for her career. The show is now in its ninth season, which returns for its second half on Sunday night.

"She has been very vocal about saying that she loves the show". She is an incredibly valuable character and I'm really hoping she stays.

Considering Michonne became largely the show's central core following Rick's exit, and as a major player in Robert Kirkman's comics, it'll certainly be a challenge for the show if it continues beyond season 10. Obviously, the lesson of Andy is that the show can survive anybody's departure if need be but that's not our goal.

Her exit comes after what's been reported as "prolonged negotiations" with AMC, the company who produces the show, which is broadcast in Ireland on RTÉ 2.

Gurira has been finding success on the big screen, and had a key role in the hugely successful Marvel superhero saga "Black Panther".
