Kushner, Greenblatt to tour Middle-East, touting 'economics' of peace plan

"President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner will visit at least five Arab countries in late February to request their rulers" support for the promised USA peace plan for Israel and the PA, as well as brief them rulers on the economic part of the "Deal of the Century", as the president described it, White House officials said Thursday.

Mr Kushner has been working on a peace plan for more than a year.

According to Haaretz, Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, the White House's top Middle East negotiator, will visit several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, to discuss economic issues related to the Palestinians within a "regional context".

Kushner, who is not expected to visit Israel on this trip, is reportedly the driver in the administration behind a deepening alliance between the US and Saudi Arabia.

"They're not going to support the economic plan without making sure they also support the political plan, and we recognise that. So the support, I'm sure in some manner, will be conditioned on whether they are comfortable with the political plan", one official was quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency. The economic plan is widely expected to include global funding proposals for the impoverished Gaza Strip.

Kushner, who is U.S. President Donald Trump's son-in-law, will also take part, the official said, and he "will discuss the administration's efforts to advance peace between Israel and the Palestinians and also take questions from the audience".

Relationships between Washington and Ramallah have been at an all-time low since the Trump administration's decision to move the U.S. embassy to Israel to Jerusalem in December 2017.

The highly anticipated peace proposal is expected to be released after the Israeli elections on April 9.

Palestinians see the city as the capital of their future state.

During the discussion with Borge Brende, president of the World Economic Forum, he is expected to give an update on the peace effort and what the administration hopes to accomplish in coming weeks and months.

The joint US-Polish conference, which was first announced last month by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, will be held on February 13 and 14 and host ministers from across the globe.
