Huawei's Next Phone Will Have 5G - And Might Be Foldable

Huawei will reveal the world's first 5G smartphone with a foldable display at Mobile World Congress next month.

Huawei's consumer division chief Richard Yu told reporters in Beijing on January 23rd, 2019 that current tensions - including a potential presidential executive order banning the company from selling telecom equipment in the USA - ultimately won't harm the company.

The world's biggest producer of telecommunication equipment also unveiled at the press conference its latest move on 5G by launching its first core chip named TIANGANG designed explicitly for the 5G base station, according to a press release on its website.

"Huawei has always been committed to investing in basic science and technology", chief carrier officer Ryan Ding said. The firm's finance chief Sabrina Meng Wanzhou, also daughter of its founder, was arrested in Canada last month at the behest of the United States.

"It's only political guys which are trying to put pressure on us".

The sisters disappeared from their family's Fairfax home on August 23, making their way to NY , police said. The sisters were last seen in Virginia on August 24 and were reported missing on September 12.

The jump of around 50 percent in the technology giant's consumer business revenue saw that unit replace its carrier business as its largest segment by sales, Yu added. Nevertheless, Huawei becomes one of the few companies to offer 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G connectivity on a single chip.

Consumers accounted for 48 percent of total profits, surpassing Huawei's business revenues for telecoms for the first time in history.

Last month, Huawei said its total revenue increased to 109 billion USA dollars with 21 percent year-on-year growth, surpassing 100 billion US dollars for the first time. It will also be using its new Balong 5000 5G chip. This now 5G base station is smaller and also more integrated.

Huawei has launched its commercial 5G CPE Pro, which is powered by its Balong 5000 5G multi-mode chipset.
