Florida woman slain in Costa Rica a 'happy soul'

Florida woman slain in Costa Rica a 'happy soul'

Carla Stefaniak of Florida spent the night at the Villa le Mas, near San Jose, on November 27. And Tuesday morning, her family was at the morgue to help the body.

Airbnb removed Villa le Mas - a compound with seven vacation apartments - from its site and said Wednesday that it had reached out to family members to offer condolences. The owners are fully cooperating with the authorities in the investigation and we hope that once the facts are determined, the perpetrator is brought to justice.

He was arrested after the "badly decomposed" body of a woman was found on Monday - metres from the Airbnb apartment complex where Carla Stefaniak was staying - which has now been confirmed to be that of the 36-year-old missing Florida woman. Her body was later found near the Airbnb where she was staying. "She can't speak", he said. "We will always be with her and we know she will always be with us".

"It's too much for us", her father, Carlos Stefaniak, told ABC Action News in Tampa from Costa Rica. "May god bless her soul".

It's heartbreaking for Carla's family and friends to come to grips with.

Blood was reportedly found inside the room where Stefaniak was staying, according to NBC News.

Stefaniak's co-workers said she was an excellent employee who could get along with anyone.

According to CNN, a partially decomposed body was discovered on December 3, about 1,000 feet from the Airbnb where she was staying. "The individual was stabbed to death with injuries to her neck and upper torso". "Because we haven't found them during the process of our investigation".

Photos provided by Costa Rican authorities show officers arresting Bismark Espinosa Martinez, 32, a security guard who reportedly lived in the apartment right next to where Stefaniak, 36, was staying. Police said he gave contradictory statements during questioning.

An Uber driver who took Stefaniak sightseeing on the Tuesday and who was supposed to pick her up to go to the airport told the family he heard she left the rental home around 5am with her luggage and got into a mysterious vehicle, according to the Miami Herald.

Her family said it didn't make sense because her flight wasn't until the afternoon and the airport was only 30 minutes away from where she was staying.

Espinoza said the images in the video also did not align with statements made by the security guard.

Costa Rican authorities announced on Tuesday that police dogs had discovered a body buried 200 feet toward the back of the property where Stefaniak had been staying, in a hilly and wooded suburb of San Jose.

Stefaniak's sister-in-law left Costa Rica on November 27 and Stefaniak was due to depart the next day - but she never made her flight.

Stefaniak dropped their rental auto off at the airport and took an Uber for a tour around San Jose before checking into the Airbnb.

"Words can not express the devastation within her family and friends", a post on the "Finding Carla" Facebook page said. "She didn't deserve to die like this", said the victim's brother, Mario Caicedo. He worked as a security guard at the Airbnb where Stefaniak was staying. Stefaniak also failed to respond to a number of birthday messages from family and friends.

"What happened to Carla is just unimaginable", friend Bugra Demirel of Tallahassee said in a telephone interview. It featured her in a turquoise bathing suit, lying near a pool with tropical plants in the background.
