Melania Trump demands sacking of senior national security official in extraordinary move

US First Lady Melania Trump has issued a statement calling for Mira Ricardel, a top national security aide to President Donald Trump, to be fired.

First lady Melania Trump issued an unusual statement on Tuesday saying Ricardel "no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House".

According to United States media reports, Mrs Trump and Mrs Ricardel fell out during the first lady's trip to Africa last month and quarrelled over seating arrangements on her plane.

The first lady's staff has reportedly clashed with Ricardel and believes she is behind some negative stories in the media.

In an interview with ABC News during the five-day trip to Ghana, Mali, Kenya and Egypt last month, the first lady said there are people in the White House whom she and the president can not trust.

Trump has told White House officials he has begun contemplating replacements for Nielsen. CNN reported that Ayers, along with other top aides, including adviser Johnny DeStefano and budget director Mick Mulvaney, and those outside the White House are being discussed.

Nielsen has reportedly been disgruntled with her job, as Trump has berated her during Cabinet meetings and branded her a "Bushie" months ago, as she used to serve under President George W. Bush.

The president (center with Melania Trump right) reportedly wants someone tougher on immigration.

Ricardel is national security adviser John Bolton's deputy.

The drama surrounding Ricardel's possible ouster surfaced while Bolton was half a world away in Singapore, where he is attending the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit.

Unlike Ricardel, the first lady has not pushed for Kelly to leave his post as the president's right-hand man. "However, we do collaborate on a variety of projects and work alongside many departments within the west wing".

And just like Ricardel, Kelly also stands accused of fudging travel arrangements for Mrs Trump's two aides by failing to reserve seats for them on Air Force One or helicopters.

Ricardel has made few friends since she came on board in April, clashing with officials across the administration.

"You always need to watch your back", she said.

Zinke, who faces several ethics investigations, said in interview with The Associated Press on Monday that he has spoken in recent days with Trump, Pence and Kelly about probes into his leadership and they remain supportive.
