Leftists Rally at White House to Protest Trump, Protect Mueller

Mr Trump has repeatedly pilloried his top law enforcement official since Mr Sessions stepped aside from the Russian Federation investigation in March 2017, allowing his deputy Rod Rosenstein to lead an inquiry that has dogged the White House. Mr Trump wrote on Wednesday.

Matthew worked as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa.

It was Clovis, no stranger to TV and radio himself, who encouraged Whitaker to get a regular commentary gig on cable television to get President Donald Trump's attention, according to friends who Whitaker told at the time.

Whitaker now becomes Mueller's new boss and judging by past statements he will be sympathetic towards Trump. And the department is expected to receive a confidential report of Mueller's findings, though it's unclear how much will be public.

Kathleen Clark, a professor of legal ethics at Washington University in St Louis, said Mr Whitaker's previous comments about the Mueller probe raise questions about his impartiality and warrant his recusal.

Margaret Talev, senior White House correspondent for Bloomberg News. The undated letter was then sent to the White House. "A permanent replacement will be nominated at a later date", Trump tweeted Wednesday.

He said there are only three ways someone can become acting attorney general: if they are the deputy attorney general and the president signs an executive order to make them acting attorney general, if they are already at the Justice Department in a job that both required and received Senate confirmation or if the Senate in in recess, they can be a recess appointment.

Election Consolidates Senate Support for Trump’s Agenda
In total, the Democrats lost out on the majority by seven percentto the Republicans, retaining 44 of 100 seats in the chamber. Only two other Muslims have been elected to Congress, and both are men now in office: Ellison and Indiana Democratic Rep.

"Sessions did not do the thing he could have done to better protect Rosenstein, and through Rosenstein, the Mueller investigation", Vladeck said.

"Essentially we need to shame him into acting in compliance with the law", she said. He is from Des Moines and attended the University of Iowa where he played football. "In fact, Mr Whitaker told CNN past year that a future attorney general could limit Mueller by reducing the budget so low that his investigations grinds to nearly a halt".

Trump had repeatedly criticized Sessions for recusing himself from any investigation into potential Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential election.

He found satisfaction in being able to reverse Obama-era policies that conservatives say flouted the will of Congress, encouraging prosecutors to pursue the most serious charges they could and promoting more aggressive enforcement of federal marijuana law.

He had also pressed to reauthorize a controversial secret domestic spying program over the Justice Department's protests. For 18 months Rosenstein has allowed Mueller a generous budget and very broad mandate.

Trump has long expressed frustration with Sessions over his recusal from the Justice Department's Russian Federation investigation. No one faced more rumors of an imminent dismissal than Sessions. He did not respond when asked why he was there.
