Dodgers offered Puig to Nats in Bryce Harper trade

Harper in the middle of that lineup could certainly help the team break its three-year playoff drought.

File this one away in the "Take it for what it's worth" category. Looks like they want to get the bad taste of Dexter Fowler's deal out of their mouth and throw some more money to big-name free agents!

"He's shown the type of player he is and now he's a grizzled veteran", Rizzo said.

In the meantime, Harper will continue to field offers from other teams in hopes of landing a record-setting deal. It is no secret that the Dodgers have been enamored with Harper for quite some time now.

Although the Phillies having interest in Harper is not surprising, the idea that they might actually land him is. And the Nationals, of course, could up-the-ante.

White House touts Trump's role in midterms as polls start to close
IN is Trump country (and the home state of Vice President Mike Pence), but Donnelly is slightly ahead in most recent polls. House midterm elections is the spillover from President Trump's wildly successful 40-day barnstorming tour to pick up U.S.

It will be interesting to see what happens this offseason though if the Dodgers pursue Harper in free agency as Puig is eligible for salary arbitration this winter and under contract for one more season. It may not have been.

That leaves the Phillies, who Nightengale says are the expected destination for Harper among the majority of baseball people. For those of you without a math degree, $35 million per year over a 13-year period would be $455 million.

However, it is becoming more and more clear that the Yankees intend to pass on Harper.

Harper's contract season of 2018 was a mixed bag. "He has done a lot in the game already, and he is just scratching the surface". He led the league in home runs, runs scored, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and OPS in 2015 when he won the AL MVP award.

"He will be standing in right field with the Phillies on March 28 at Citizens Bank Park when they open the season against the defending NL East champion Atlanta Braves", Nightengale added.
