Liverpool's hopes hang in balance after shock defeat to Red Star

They last played in the European Cup in 1991 as holders, when beating the likes of Liverpool would not have been regarded as such a surprise.

The Reds' next Champions League fixture is also set to take them a long way from Anfield, with a trip to Paris Saint-Germain set to be taken in on November 28.

Crvena Zvezda fans had a choice greeting for Liverpool when the two sides met in Belgrade for their UEFA Champions League Group C clash on Tuesday - with a pre-match choregraphed rendition of "F*ck you Liverpool". "In the game [we lost our mojo], but not in general", he added.

Asked to explain what went wrong in Belgrade, Klopp replied: "I only have 10 fingers".

Liverpool suffered defeat at Red Star Belgrade, while Thierry Henry's AS Monaco were on the end of thumping by Club Brugge. As ever, you can watch all the action Live & Exclusive via beIN SPORTS CONNECT.

The kick-off time for Red Star vs Liverpool is 6:55pm, while that of Juventus vs Man United is 9pm. With heavy away defeats to Liverpool & PSG attesting that the Serbian's are struggling to bridge the gap in quality.

It was no more than Red Star deserved after the opening 20 minutes.

The Reds now occupy top spot in their Champions League group and will want to replicate their 4-0 result in the last meeting between the two sides.

A victory would extend Liverpool's lead atop to the group standings, and a tie in the other Group C game - Napoli versus PSG - would leave Liverpool in an nearly unassailable position to progress with just two games remaining.

Milan Pavkov scored in the 22nd and 29th minutes as the Serbian champions earned a first win in their debut appearance in the Champions League group stage.

Ahead of the game, Klopp confirmed that full-back Nathaniel Clyne had been left out of the squad due to illness, but welcomed back Dejan Lovren into the fold, after the Croat had missed the 1-1 draw against Arsenal this past weekend due to an injury, along with Naby Keita.

Liverpool have chose to leave Xherdan Shaqiri - who's of Kosovar-Albanian descent- at home to avoid any distractions amid fears of a hostile welcome from the passionate Serbian home support.

The Telegraph and The Times report that Klopp may leave the Swiss forward in Liverpool for the Tuesday evening encounter, and is said to be leaning towards doing so.

Nathaniel Clyne and Jordan Henderson are unavailable, while Xherdan Shaqiri has not travelled with the squad.
