Barty beats Wang to win WTA Elite Trophy

Barty beats Wang to win WTA Elite Trophy

"So what I'll do is I'll just relax tomorrow". Although the professional and low key way Ash goes about her tennis means she often flies under the radar in terms of publicity - she just gets the job done.

The Australian managed to come back from a break down to take the second and showed her improvements in return during the decider to bounce back and seal her first final in Zhuhai. This year she's won her first grand slam title, in doubles at the US Open, where she also picked up the sportsmanship award.

"I think I had to try an assert myself a little bit earlier in points", she said.

The Australian Woman, Ashleigh Barty, rallied past the defending champion Julia Goerges, to reserve a berth in the finals of the WTA Elite Trophy.

Serena opted to end her 2018 season two weeks ago, allowing players like Barty to overtake her.

The Australian overcame home favourite Wang Qiang 6-3, 6-4 in the Zhuhai final and climbed to 15th in the world singles rankings, the highest of her career.

United States sanctions target Iran's oil exports, shipping and banks
Oil markets have been anticipating the sanctions for months and the world's biggest producers have been increasing output. But they were opposed by other signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal - Britain, France, Russia, China, Germany and the EU.

Barty, who took a break from tennis earlier in her career to play cricket, has proved nearly unbeatable when she has won the first set this year as she has solidified her position in the world top 20.

"It's been a great finish in China this week", Barty said after Sunday's win.

Barty had her share of luck to make the tournament decider after losing her opening-round robin-match in straight sets to Aryna Sabalenka.

"I know that whenever I have played Q in the past, it's always been an extremely tough match", Barty told WTA Media.

Making her second appearance in the tournament, Barty completed the fifth Top 20 win in 2018, having beaten No.18 Osaka (Nottingham), No.18 Bertens (Montréal), No.3 Kerber (Wuhan) and No.18 Garcia (Zhuhai).

The win caps another strong year for Barty who had started 2017 ranked 325 in the world after a two-year sabbatical from the game and spending time playing cricket.
