Amazon To Split Second Headquarters Between Two US Cities, Says Report

Inc.'s yearlong search for a second headquarters is nearing an end, people with knowledge of the matter said.

E-commerce giant Amazon may split its second headquarters between two cities, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

The company also apparently is concerned about the impact of quickly adding tens of thousands of workers have on housing prices and transportation infrastructure in any individual city. Insiders say these discussions have been "more detailed" than those in other parts of the Washington DC region, as well as in other candidate cities. Amazon declined to comment to Fortune.

A decision could come as soon as this week, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The journal reports Amazon is discussing incentives with government officials in Crystal City and speaking with a real estate investment trust, which owns property in the city. The neighborhood features a concentration of high rise offices, hotels and residential buildings. The paper was also told that Amazon would be able to use a pair of buildings to host "several hundred employees" within nine months if the city is chosen. Amazon may want to avoid criticism that its arrival in a new town overwhelms the area.
