Mobile phone use linked to cancer

Researchers claimed to have found "clear evidence" that shows radiation from cell phones does cause cancer, the Daily Mail reported.

For the study that was just released, the National Toxicology Program (NTP) collaborated with technical experts from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (Boulder, CO) and the Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society (Zurich, Switzerland).

"The exposures used in the studies can not be compared directly to the exposure that humans experience when using a cell phone", said John Bucher, Ph.D., NTP senior scientist.

While high levels of RFR caused cancerous tumours in the heart (found very rarely in humans), brain and adrenal gland, of male rats, the findings on female rats were ambiguous. Ming Yeung/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty ImagesCurrent 4G and 5G cell phones do emit much higher frequencies than second generation cell phones, says The New York Times, but scientists say those radio waves aren't as capable of penetrating the human body as older models. By contrast, people are mostly exposed in specific local tissues close to where they hold the phone.

The exposure levels and durations were far greater than what people typically encounter. The final reports represent the consensus of NTP and a panel of external scientific experts who reviewed the studies in March after draft reports were issued in February.

However, those thinking this is about to blow the lid on the mobile phone industry will need to think again, as the researchers stressed that "exposures used in the studies can not be compared directly to the exposure that humans experience when using a cell phone".

Costing $30m, the studies took 10 years to complete and are the most comprehensive assessment, to date, of health effects in animals exposed to RFR with modulations used in 2G and 3G mobile phones.

Cohen also recalls Trump saying, during a drive through a "rougher" neighborhood, "Only the blacks could live like this". Cohen also noted several other racist comments he says Trump made before he was elected.

In should also be noted that the types of RFR used for Wi-Fi or 5G networks were not included in this investigation. A major study is hoping to answer some of those questions. "This may be explained by an observed decrease in chronic kidney problems that are often the cause of death in older rats", said Wyde.

The animals were housed in chambers specifically designed and built for these studies.

The studies saw RFR exposure begin as early as the womb for rat test subjects and continue for up to two years (the subjects' natural lifespans). For two years, the animals were exposed to RFR for up to nine hours a day.

RFR levels ranged from 1.5 to 6 watts per kilogramme in rats, and 2.5 to 10 watts per kilogramme in mice. In addition, the studies will try to identify biomarkers that may indicate early effects of radio-frequency radiation exposure in rodents, such as changes in heart rate or molecular changes that might be predictive of cancer.

And, "the exposures used in the studies can not be compared directly to the exposure that humans experience when using a cellphone", NTP senior scientist John Bucher noted in an NIEHS news release.

"Animal studies like this one contribute to our discussions on this topic, but we must remember the study was not created to test the safety of cellphone use in humans, so we can not draw conclusions about the risks of cellphone use from it", Dr. Jeffrey Shuren, director of the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, who was not involved with the study, said in a statement.
