Trump says ‘rogue killers’ may be behind Khashoggi disappearance

Trump said he spoke to the Saudi king for about 20 minutes about Khashoggi, who disappeared after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, and that it sounded like neither the king nor Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had knowledge about the incident. Trump said, "He didn't really know".

In an earlier phone call with Trump in April, King Salman reiterated Riyadh's position that Jerusalem must remain the capital of Palestine amid speculation that the kingdom had given up on the longstanding position. "I am immediately sending our Secretary of State (Mike Pompeo) to meet with King!"

Turkish officials say they fear a Saudi hit team killed Khashoggi, who has been missing almost two weeks.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow declined to speculate on what Trump might do after the president promised "severe punishment" in a "60 Minutes" interview, if the US determines that Khashoggi was indeed killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) announced on Monday that he plans to reintroduce his resolution to bring an immediate halt to US complicity in Saudi Arabia's massacre of Yemeni civilians, with the goal of forcing senators who have expressed fury at Khashoggi's murder to finally act on their indignant words.

The president provided no evidence to back his comment.

Bills coach Sean McDermott said after the game that they were still evaluating Allen's injury. Houston had 15 first downs and converted 23 percent of the time on third down.

The White House is brushing aside threats by Saudi Arabia that it may economically retaliate for any USA punitive action imposed over the suspected murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, pledging a "swift, open, transparent investigation" into his disappearance.

"Something this big would definitely spook investors, and Saudi just opened up for foreign direct investment, so that was big", said Issam Kassabieh, a financial analyst at Dubai-based firm Menacorp Finance.

Flake said if the Saudis did, in fact, kill Khashoggi, Congress might specifically curtail United States military aid to Saudi-led forces in Yemen. The dissident Saudi journalist's Turkish colleagues and several Turkish officials have voiced concerns that he was murdered in the consulate.

More than 20 Republican and Democratic senators instructed Trump last week to order an investigation into Khashoggi's disappearance under legislation that authorizes sanctions for perpetrators of extrajudicial killings, torture or other gross human rights violations.

Billionaire Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal - who was among those temporarily detained as part of what Saudi authorities said was an anti-corruption crackdown - tweeted an image of the Saudi flag Sunday in support of the ruling family, saying: "God, then the king, then the nation".
