Amazon's $15 wage is far from a win, some veteran workers say

Amazon this week increased its minimum wage in the USA to $15 an hour from $11, more than double the federal minimum wage of $7.25 and ahead of wages paid by retail giants Walmart and Target.

"Now that activists have succeeded, they can now take that demand to other employers", said Marshall Steinbaum, a fellow at the Roosevelt Institute.

According to Bloomberg, those bonuses amounted to hundreds of dollars a month in some cases. "Amazon can afford to make all workers whole and should do that".

Instead, Amazon will offer a direct stock purchase plan, which usually allows an investor to purchase stock without a broker.

An advocate for higher minimum wages, Conti added that Amazon would likely benefit if $15 an hour became the new baseline.

This is because Amazon is paying for this wage increase in part by ending their warehouse bonuses and stock awards.

"I want to give credit where credit is due", Sanders said. "The ones who are loyal should be rewarded for loyalty, not smacked in the face".

Patriots tight end reportedly will be active vs. Colts
The Patriots were driving halfway through the 4th quarter after giving up a touchdown to the Colts. Gordon posted two receptions against the Colts for 50 yards and a score.

Amazon's minimum wage hike might turn out to be a financial setback for some employees. "We're excited about this change and encourage our competitors and other large employers to join us".

An Amazon worker told The Verge that the news was devastating to the employees, most of whom depend on the RSU and variable compensation payment (VCP) incentives.

"They must have a different kind of calculator than us", said an employee at a Pennsylvania warehouse, who estimated she'll lose out on about $3,000 a year. The company made a $5.2 billion profit past year on almost $23 billion in sales. Average hourly wages for retail workers, excluding managers, rose 4 percent in August compared with 12 months earlier.

"Our commitment to the communities we serve includes providing opportunities for restaurant employees to succeed at McDonald's and beyond with world-class training and education programs to help them build the skills needed for today's workforce", the company said in a statement.

Amazon India and Flipkart classify their delivery staff as semi-skilled, and some kinds of workers in their sorting centres as unskilled, industry members said. Disney reached a deal with unions to pay a minimum of $15 an hour at Disneyland in California by 2019 and at Disney World in Florida by 2021. He said Amazon needs to communicate to workers better if overall compensation is higher "or you're going to have morale problems". "We work so hard, and we get less". A higher minimum wage might not even affect Amazon that much in the long run.

The wage increase applies for full-time, part-time and temporary workers. I would hope that as a result of Amazon's new policy, no worker, especially long-time employees, sees a reduction in total compensation.

Among the critics Amazon has faced over its pay and work conditions, Sen.
