No Napoli venue request for Champions League tie against Liverpool

No Napoli venue request for Champions League tie against Liverpool

Napoli's other Champions League home games are against Paris Saint-Germain on November 6 and Red Star Belgrade on November 28.

An ongoing issue with Napoli's San Paolo stadium has prompted De Laurentiis to request a switch of grounds because the current stadium, which is owned by the local council, does not meet Uefa's seat requirements.

The Serie A side are due to host the Reds on October 3 at the Stadio San Paolo.

"For me, it's a nightmare".

"It will take two years but I am going to build a new stadium so nobody can say anything to me".

He sat down for an interview with Corriere Dello Sport and stated that he has an arrangement in place with Insigne's agent Mino Raiola regarding his market value, as he told reporters: "He has a symbolic release clause".

"We can't go on like this anymore".

De Laurentiis, repeating his previous criticism of the municipally-owned San Paolo stadium where Napoli play their home games, said he would pay for 1,000 buses to take fans the 250 kilometres to Bari for each match. Nobody can tell you to do anything if you put in your own money and have the land to build a stadium.

However, UEFA has confirmed to Sky Sports News that no such request for special dispensation has been received.

If that exemption doesn't come, Napoli could be forced to look for an alternative venue and, with Bari's 58,00-capacity San Nicola stadium the front-runner, travelling Liverpool supporters may be forced to amend their travel plans.
