Storm Ernesto is heading our way with torrential rain this weekend

The two-day heatwave forecast for next week will be preceded by unsettled weather due to the arrival of Storm Ernesto from the Atlantic.

Wind is expected across northern parts with spells of rain, mainly in the west. Winds will also be strong over Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The downpours are associated with the remnants of the tropical storm, Storm Ernesto.

Ernesto had maximum sustained winds near 40 miles per hour (65 kph).

The Status Yellow weather warning is for "high intensity rainfall" on Saturday night.

According to Met Eireann, it will be mild and humid tonight, with temperatures unlikely to fall below 13 to 15 degrees Celsius.

Ernesto, as with Debby, formed from non-tropical low pressure systems that came off the northeast coast or formed over the waters nearby. This disturbance is moving westward at about 15 miles per hour and is forecast to move through the islands on Saturday, where it could bring locally heavy rainfall to portions of the Lesser Antilles during the next couple of days.

Storm Ernesto is now brewing over the North Atlantic and is expected to hit Ireland on Saturday night.

Hurricane Lane has entered the Central Pacific basin as a powerful Category 4 hurricane on a path toward the vicinity of the Hawaiian islands.

Blackpool is set to see rain from early Friday afternoon to late evening, which will then give way to cloud on Saturday.
