Day 2 of Jury Deliberations in Manafort Trial Underway in Va.

After a full day of deliberation, the 12-person jury in the financial crimes trial of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has yet to reach a verdict, meaning the panel will reconvene Friday to continue considering Manafort's fate. "I think it's a very sad day for our country", Trump told reporters at the White House.

The judge overseeing Paul Manafort's trial said Friday that he's received threats related to the case - and won't release jurors' names amid fears for their safety.

"I think the whole Manafort trial is very sad", Trump said, responding to shouted out questions from the press.

Some of the questions the jury asked Thursday may be answered by the instructions the judge gave them before they began deliberating, which they are able to listen to again.

"I had no idea this case excited this emotion", Ellis also said. A Manafort conviction could also boost Mueller's position as he negotiates with Trump's lawyers over a potential interview. He faces 18 felony counts on tax evasion and bank fraud. Mr Manafort denied the allegation.

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort arrives for arraignment on a third superseding indictment against him by Special Counsel Robert Mueller on charges of witness tampering, at U.S. District Court in Washington, U.S., June 15, 2018.

Witnesses described how Manafort routed $16 million in income hidden in foreign bank accounts to USA vendors to purchase real estate, expensive clothing and antique rugs, income he is charged with omitting from his tax returns. On Friday, he accused Mueller of having "a lot of conflicts", but said the special counsel should be allowed to finish a report on Russia's role in the 2016 election.

On Thursday, the jury ended its first day of deliberations with a series of questions to the judge, including a request to "redefine" reasonable doubt.

The judge made the comment before telling spectators including journalists that he did not want them running out of the courtroom while the jury announces its verdict on the various counts. The judge told them reasonable doubt "is a doubt based on reason", but added: "The government is not required to prove guilt beyond all possible doubt".

Prosecutors say Manafort earned some $60 million consulting for the Russia-backed political party in Ukraine, and hid at least $16 million in income from the IRS between 2010 and 2014.
