Day, Scott in mix at PGA as play suspended

"The golf course is good", said Woodland, a three-time PGA Tour victor who has never finished among the top 10 in a major championship.

Tiger Woods is tied for 23rd at 3-under-par, but only got in seven holes before the suspension.

He sits five shots back of clubhouse leader Gary Woodland, who maintained his place atop the leaderboard with a 66 elevating him to 10 under and one shot ahead of fellow American Kevin Kisner (64). Fowler overcame an early bogey with three birdies through 10 holes. The third round will be played in groups of three from the No. 1 and No. 10 tees.

If the 19-time PGA Tour victor is trying to add a second major to his resume, he'll need to make a lot more birdies the rest of the way.

"Obviously things haven't been going well for me this year. The last few weeks have been good", added Lowry.

"I felt I was headed in the right direction", said Woods, who was at 3 under. That will make for great fun for those of us watching throughout the week. It's pretty special to be close to home where everybody can come out and watch because I have a lot of family who have never seen me play in person. "It doesn't get better than that".

Woods was one of the golfers to not complete his second round. He hit 8 of 9 greens on the back nine.

At the par-5 8th hole, Woods had to lay up with his second shot but hit a great approach. Unfortunately, Finau carded a triple bogey on the par-3 6th hole, which brought his cut probability back down to 50 percent.

"He was just shaking his head", Finau said after finishing the rain-delayed round Saturday morning with a 4-under 66, a round that featured just four pars.

"I feel safe where my game is", Woodland said. "Get in the fairway, the greens are still soft enough that you can still attack". "Hopefully this afternoon I can shoot a low one and it's going to take that because guys are making birdies from everywhere".

McIlroy also resumed with a birdie at the par-five eighth and the Northern Irishman picked up two further gains, including a 58-foot chip in at the 14th, to move to three-under and well inside the cut mark of level par.

But he is no stranger to mammoth rounds at the year's final major, having endured a 36-hole last day during his title defence at the 2016 edition - when he finished runner-up to Jimmy Walker by one shot.
