Idris Elba Reportedly a Top Contender to Play James Bond

You need a guy with physically strong presence.

SEE ALSO: Bond v Bourne v Hunt: Who is the Ultimate 21st Century Action Hero? It seems evident that there's a hope to see the actor as 007 and lead the film franchise in the post-Craig-as-Bond era, but there's no guarantee. But one name keeps coming up: Idris Elba. "Happy New Year people", Elba wrote at the time.

The discussion over who could play the next James Bond could be nearing it's conclusion, as the biggest clue yet has been dropped over the next actor's identity.

Elba, 45, was rumored to be the next James Bond in 2014 following the hack into Sony Pictures' emails. "Idris has that", the director added. The rumor began circulating again yesterday after The Daily Star published a report in which the tabloid detailed a conversation between director Antoine Fuqua and Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, claiming Broccoli said "it is time" for a diverse actor to take on the role and that she is certain "it will happen eventually". The year prior, just ahead of when Sam Mendes released the 24th Bond film Spectre in November of 2015, Vulture cut together an insanely cool trailer that imagined Elba as a modern, take-no-prisoners Bond.

Ruby Rose gets emotional about LGBT superhero casting
In case you missed it yesterday, Ruby Rose has been cast as Batwoman in a standalone TV series set to debut on the CW in 2019 . Fans will get their first look at Rose's take on the character in the big Arrowverse crossover event this December on The CW.

Upon hearing that Elba is in the frontrunning to play Bond next, the internet shared their opinions.

Other Black British actors who have been linked with the part include John Boyega, and David Oyelowo (who has actually voiced the character in audiobook form). Will Elba want to play it as much as everyone else wants him to?

He said to Vanity Fair: "It could be a woman - could be a black woman, could be a white woman".
