U.S. imposes sanctions on six Iranians and 3 companies

The Treasury on March 23 imposed sanctions on an Iranian entity and Iranian individuals for "malicious cyber-enabled activities".

"Countries around the world must be vigilant against Iran's efforts to exploit their financial institutions to exchange currency and fund the nefarious actors of the IRGC-QF and the world's largest state sponsor of terror", Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in the statement.

"We are intent on cutting off IRGC revenue streams wherever their source and whatever their destination", Mnuchin added. With thousands of troops and advanced military equipment, the Guards have been behind many of Iran's key military operations.

Previously President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker stated, that Europe must replace the U.S. as a global leader after president Trump had announced his decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal.

In October, President Donald Trump labelled the group a "corrupt terror force and militia" and hit them with sanctions.

The White House warned European firms they had a six-month deadline to wind up investments in Iran or risk U.S. sanctions. Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said that Tehran is ready to soon begin uranium enrichment on an industrial scale.

The latest sanctions specifically target its elite overseas operations arm, the Quds Force.

Trump's move undercut more than a decade and a half of diplomacy by Britain, China, France, Germany, Iran, Russia and past U.S. administration, which had resulted in the deal that lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for limits on its nuclear program.

Iran has said it will remain in the JCPOA for now, pending negotiations with the other signatories in the coming weeks before making a final decision on its future role in the agreement.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had warned his country could resume uranium enrichment "without limit" but would refrain from doing so for now.

On Tuesday President Trump announced the United States was pulling out of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and called it disastrous and one-sided.
