Controversy as UFC coach refuses to throw in towel for fighter

Already the second most successful UFC women's Bantamweight Champion, Amanda Nunes faced the battle of TUF 18's Raquel Pennington at UFC 224 in her third championship defense.

Amanda Nunes utilized some nasty low kicks to batter the legs of her opponent early and often throughout the course of their championship bout. This earned the Brazilian a stoppage at the 2:36 mark of the final round.

In the cage after the fight, Pennington's significant other Tecia Torres joined her in the cage, while Nunes' in Nina Ansaroff did as well. Instead, they implored her to go back out and leave it all in the Octagon rather than stopping the fight at her request.

Nunes dominated from start to finish, with only one judge giving Pennington a single round on the scorecards.

"She went to the hospital". She went out on her shield. In between rounds there was a bit of controversy as Pennington told her cornermen that she wanted to be done, but her coaches talked her into continuing the fight. "Unfortunately, tonight he failed".

Next up, John Lineker continued to prove he is one of the most unsafe fighters in the lightweight divisions after scoring a third-round finish of Brian Kelleher via KO. However, she said something that created a heavy gap between diehard and fighter-protect fans. Rocky secured a takedown, but otherwise it was more of Nunes picking the challenger apart with leg kicks and combinations.

A quien confrontó al aire por haber grabado su conversación: "Me llamó Ventura y me grabó la conversación". Me sorprendí porque era una cosa privada que estaba hablando con él. "Gane o no gane, voy a ir".

"I've never fought nobody as a friend".

Nunes had the clear advantage from the outset of the first round. "And I think that's what the corner was trying to do is not let her give up on herself...get her back in the game mentally". She used to train with us. And I would have done the same thing because sometimes when you're exhausted and you don't think you have enough left, your coach's job is to pull the most out of you. "It was the most hard fight in my career to fight this girl". But I had to defend the belt. Because we have the respect.

According to Fightmetric, Nunes outlanded Pennington in total strikes 152-79. At the very very least, they should have thrown in the towel while Pennington was on the mat getting pummeled at the end.

McKenzie Dern lived up to her reputation with a slick first-round submission win over Amanda Cooper after knocking her down with a powerful overhand right. She also scored three takedowns and floored Pennington twice.

Nunes showcased her wrestling ability in the third round and laid into Pennington with knees from the clinch at the end of the fourth.
