Alesha Dixon presses her golden buzzer on BGT for singer Lifford Shillingford

Alesha Dixon came face-to-face with someone from her past as she selected her Golden Buzzer act on this week's 'Britain's Got Talent'.

Shillingford is a self-employed singer songwriter, and also teaches about singing and the music industry.

Explaining in his introduction video, Lifford said: 'It was great, we got to do Jools Holland, Top of the Pops. There was just a mutual respect and understanding between us'.

He reacted: "Thank you so much, thank you so much".

The pair had known each other back when Alesha was in 00s girlband Mis-Teeq, but while Alesha has gone on to have a glittering showbiz career, Lifford fell out of the spotlight after struggling with depression and anxiety.

In a blog post on the Time to Change website from back in 2013, the singer penned: "I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety more than 10 years ago after finally reaching out for help. Good times", he says on Britain's Got Talent.

Controversy as UFC coach refuses to throw in towel for fighter
At the very very least, they should have thrown in the towel while Pennington was on the mat getting pummeled at the end. Instead, they implored her to go back out and leave it all in the Octagon rather than stopping the fight at her request.

Speaking to the Sunday Mirror, Alesha said: 'He's not a friend, that sounds cold, but I don't have his phone number. "We were on the circuit together", he tells her, and she starts Please Don't Turn Me On.

"For you to be on that stage singing, raw, heart and soul, you deserve this moment".

After confirming that she knew Lifford to Simon Cowell, Alesha - and the rest of the nation - were blown away by his musical talent.

During Saturday's (12 May) show, the judge granted her pass to the live semi-finals to former member of garage group Artful Dodger, Lifford Shillingford. Look, Lifford, that was a special, special moment.

"Depression has taken me to some dark places, questioning my self-worth and existence, but it has also helped to make me stronger". "It takes guts. I'm really happy for you".
