China welcomes DPRK and U.S. leaders summit in Singapore

In North Korea's bombastic rhetoric, "denuclearisation" has, for years, been a byword for United States troop withdrawals from South Korea - an idea that Kang appeared to reject.

He did not mention other adversaries by name, but Pompeo and others have often noted that the USA played a major role in rebuilding Japan and the European axis powers in the wake of the World War II.

"It is my knowledge this position was directly conveyed to Kim by Secretary of State Pompeo", the diplomat said, adding the United States wants to shorten the time "as much as physically possible" to inspect and verify the removal of weapons. If North Korea rejects the reported US insistence on quick denuclearization - complete, verifiable and irreversible - Trump should return to Washington and amp up the maximum pressure campaign focused on hurting Kim where he cares most: North Korea's creaking economy, which he's vowed to improve.

North Korea has faced major economic sanctions by the United Nations in recent months, hitting its already stunted economy, after Kim's government continued its testing of rockets with the stated intent of reaching the US mainland with a nuclear weapon. Pertinently, North Korea believes it can at least rely on China as a buffer against potential US aggression; Iran does not have a similar faith in Europe. He said a massive inspection and monitoring regime would be required to ensure the North's compliance.

"We are in uncharted waters", he said. "The United States no longer makes empty threats. Failure would be a significant setback to diplomatic efforts". The North has been vowing to pursue nuclear development unless Washington removes its 28,500 troops from South Korea and the nuclear umbrella defending South Korea and Japan.

I know for Ron [Howard] and [producer] Kathleen [Kennedy] it's just such a huge deal to have him really, genuinely enjoy the film. Ehrenreich's full interview, including whatever Ford has to say, will air Sunday.

South Korea also believes North Korea is detaining two North Korea-born citizens who had defected to the South.

Kim Hak Song was accused of engaging in unspecified "hostile acts" against North Korea, and was detained last May. "We are very, very happy". We'll hold them to those steps. "When they do, I am ready, willing and able". It can be said that Trump's decision to choose a third-party country by attaching importance to neutrality was wise. South Korea says North Korea is holding at least three of them. But he says Trump deserves credit for bringing Kim to the negotiating table.

But he added: "I'm confident that we have a shared understanding of the outcome that the leaders want, certainly President Trump and chairman Kim, but I think President Moon as well".

Trump's Iran announcement came earlier than expected - four days ahead of a May 12 deadline - and he made a point of mentioning that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on his way to North Korea "at this very moment". Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) have suggested that if North Korea denuclearizes under Kim Jong-Un, the president should receive the Nobel Prize. However, the vast majority of them were impoverished fishermen, who North Korea found as useful foils for its propaganda machine. Last June, American student Otto Warmbier was sentenced to hard labor after he was caught taking a propaganda poster during a North Korean tourism trip.
