Boston Celtics: 5 keys to conference finals vs. Cavaliers

Boston Celtics: 5 keys to conference finals vs. Cavaliers

And if he beats the Celtics again and advances to his eighth straight NBA Finals, James would join a club now exclusive to Boston players with legendary status.

Cleveland Cavaliers' LeBron James and Boston Celtics' Kyrie Irving, right, shake hands after the Cavaliers defeated the Celtics in October, 2017. The Celtics' roster lacks the depth necessary to advance past James and the Cavaliers.

It is actually a return bout between the two for this year's 2018 Eastern Conference trophy, with Cleveland prevailing last year before relinquishing its crown to Golden State in the NBA Finals via a 4-1 rout. But he's never been scared, he's never been afraid of the big moment.

The Boston Celtics played the Cleveland Cavaliers three time this regular season.

The Celtics however could potentially end LeBron's reign in Cleveland for a second time.

Terry Rozier has asserted himself as one of the best young guards in the game. "It's nothing against the defense or sometimes you're not tall enough to block his shot or things like that".

Added Rozier: "We understand he's gonna make some insane plays".

"We've got to try to make it as tough as we can". "They roll out, they'll have five guys out there at all times who all can play. We've just got to show our energy and length".

Despite lacking a superstar, the Celtics are still finding success on the offensive end, lead by rookie Jayson Tatum's team-leading 18.8 points per game on almost 46% shooting. Two months after he feared his season was over, he is more than eager to take on the challenge. He almost averaged a triple-double, putting up 24 points, 10.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists while shooting 53.7 percent from the field across three games. The Pacers? They made life rough on the Cavs for second games, as was evident in the almost four turnovers a game James totaled.

In the league's Last Two Minute Report on officiating in the late stages of the Celtics' 114-112 triumph, the league said game officials missed two key calls against Boston.

That said, LeBron will influence any front office in the league. "He can really shoot the ball from the outside". They just play really hard.

Obviously, if you are a fan of one of the teams, it makes it way easier to choose, but for the rest of us it makes more sense to believe we are about to witness some of the dramatic basketball we have ever seen. Against a guy like LeBron, it's the team. We don't want anybody on our side now. The Cavs won that series 4-2, but it was a lot closer, with Chicago dropping a couple of leads that could have helped them finally overcome James.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens also isn't the least bit bothered by Cleveland being viewed as favorites. I was like, for sure. "But I've seen the way that these guys prepare, I've seen the way that they train and they want to be great and they understand that it's bigger than them". They've got guys that have a high IQ on the defensive end and guys that just mix it up. "It's definitely going to be a team thing". Looking at some trends, the Cavs are just 28-24 against winning teams while the Celtics are 31-21.

"One person can't defend LeBron, that's obvious", Morris said.

"When you get here, you're flattered by the thought of the Boston Celtics and all you're thinking about is the tradition and history", said Stevens.
