Agent safety Eric Reid files grievance under CBA

Agent safety Eric Reid files grievance under CBA

Both players became the topic of controversy after deciding to kneel during the national anthem in protest of racial inequality and police brutality, and they're presently unsigned free agents this offseason.

Reid's decision comes after he failed to sign during the NFL's opening free-agent period prior to last week's NFL Draft.

The grievance is similar to the one former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick filed previous year, ESPN reports. Reid has reportedly hired Mark Geragos, the attorney who also represents Kaepernick in the quarterback's collusion case.

National Football League spokesperson Brian McCarthy declined to comment on Reid's grievance, citing confidentiality requirements of arbitration proceedings. "Our union supports Eric and we are considering other legal options to pursue". "If you think [it] is, then your mindset is part of the problem too", Reid tweeted three days after free agency opened.

49ers cornerback Richard Sherman came to the defense of Reid during his introductory press conference with the team in March, arguing that Reid deserves a contract for playing like one of the top 10 safeties in the NFL. "I'm just going to consider different ways to be active, different ways to bring awareness to the issues of this country and improve on the issues happening in this country". "I think he's kind of stuck in a safety market that's been quiet". Reid has retained the same lawyer as Kaepernick. Kaepernick filed his grievance against the league in October.

At that meeting, a tape of which was obtained by The New York Times, Reid said of Kaepernick: "I feel like he was hung out to dry".

The NFL did not immediately respond to Reid's claim. "I would anticipate things start to shake for him".

Reid is a former Pro Bowl safety who racked up 67 tackles and 2 interceptions last season - and many believe he should have easily gotten a roster spot in 2018 based on his talent.
