Firmino inks long-term extension with Liverpool

Roberto Firmino, the Liverpool striker, has given Jurgen Klopp the ideal start to one of the biggest weeks of his reign by agreeing a five-year deal at the club.

Liverpool, however, remain in close contact with the Egypt international's representative, Ramy Abbas, over improving the terms of a player whose phenomenal impact and soaring profile will attract rival interest.

Liverpool are "lucky" to be reaping the rewards of a matured Mohamed Salah at Anfield, according to manager Jurgen Klopp.

"I'm really happy with the season". 'He knows and appreciates absolutely this club.

"Each player has to do different jobs, each attacking player has to defend, he is doing that, but does Roberto or Sadio defend more?" We need to carry on in this way.

"But he is absolutely a big factor in our future".

"Every day our relationship gets better and better and then in the games, we apply what we've worked on in training before".

Salah, 25, struggled to make an impact during his first spell in England at Chelsea, but has scored 43 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions for Klopp's side this season since his summer transfer from Roma.

"He's a footballer, from his head to his toes", said the German.

"Because Millie (James Milner) didn't play the last game from the start, Roberto had the highest distance covered". For an offensive player that is pretty rare in world football.

"You can see on the pitch I always want to give [the ball] to Mo, Mo always wants to give it to me as well".

Firmino has scored 27 times this season - the most prolific campaign of his career - as Liverpool have reached the Champions League semi-finals. Liverpool head to the Stadio Olimpico protecting a 5-2 lead from last week's first leg at Anfield.
