MI mother leaves Two Women in suitcase

Police say a 26-year-old MI woman left her two infant daughters inside a suitcase on the side of the road as child welfare workers arrived to take the children away.

The woman has since been identified as Katrina Childress, 26.

Child Protective Services called Flint police officers around 2 p.m. Wednesday to a home on West Pierson Road. Authorities have not said why the children were being removed. Afterward, officers checked her home to ensure her children's welfare and noticed that two of her children, infant girls, were unaccounted for, the newspaper reported.

She discarded the suitcase like it was trash, and officers chased after her, police told MLive.

The woman then began to tidy up the home as Flint police waited outside for CPS to arrive.

The girls were later found inside the suitcase near the road.

The mother then took off running out the back of the house. Police say she has a history of mental illness.

The mother was arrested and taken to a local hospital.

Leyton said the girls, along with the woman's 3-year-old and 4-year-old sons have been placed in temporary foster care. "CPS is well aware of this woman".
