The Las Vegas Golden Knights Continue to Prove Themselves

What makes their dominance even more impressive however is that they are the first expansion team to clinch the playoffs in its inaugural year, and are now only the third NHL, NBA or Major League Baseball team to sweep the first series of their first time in the postseason. On Tuesday night, the Knights defeated the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 in Los Angeles.

Lars Eller scored 8 minutes, 59 seconds into the second overtime, giving visiting Washington the win against Columbus in Game 3 of an Eastern Conference first-round playoff series, although the Blue Jackets still have a 2-1 lead in the series. For the Vegas Golden Knights, it was the latter, and Marc-Andre Fleury landed the tag with good reason. Vegas fans in the crowd chanted the goalie's name in celebration.

Kopitar had two points in the series after having 92 points (35 goals, 57 assists) in the regular season, his best in 12 National Hockey League seasons.

Brown also hit the left post with 10 minutes to go in the third, typical of the close calls that failed to generate goals for the Kings in the series.

"We knew we were getting a superstar when we got him", Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said. He stopped 31 shots as the Knights finished off their fourth one-goal victory against the Kings. Fortunately for the Kings, Jonathan Quick is an athletic goaltender who is explosive laterally, but his phenomenal performance only prevented blowouts and couldn't steal the series if the players in front of him didn't score. Statistically speaking, Game 3 was Fleury's worst of the series, but worst is all relative when he's posting a.949 SP, allowing two goals on the 39 shots the Kings were able to muster.

The Kings gave up the first goal in three of four games; playing from behind in the postseason is not sustainable, and Los Angeles found out the hard way. "[Quick] played unbelievable, gave us a chance every night". They were the first team this season to perform a sweep, and potentially the only one if the San Jose Sharks don't beat the Anaheim Ducks tonight.

"We just got knocked out of the playoffs".

The Kings managed just three goals in the series and lacked offensive punch from Kopitar (one goal) and wingers Brown and Tyler Toffoli (no goals). This entire series showed a strong defensive effort from both teams. The Kings fell to 12-31 all-time in Game 4s.
