Canelo Alvarez Suspended Six Months By NSAC For Failed Drug Tests

Deputy Attorney General Caroline Bateman, who represented Nevada at the hearing, told the commissioners that Alvarez and the state had reached an adjudication agreement prior to the hearing which called for the six-month ban. But Alvarez tested positive for clenbuterol.

On Wednesday, Alvarez learned he had been suspended six months by Nevada boxing officials, and will undergo further drug testing.

Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), the crowd-pleasing Kazakh knockout artist, had originally been slated to fight Canelo Álvarez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in a rematch of their September blockbuster, which ended in a controversial split draw.

The suspension should come with a "save-the-date" note because it means that Alvarez will be eligible to fight again after August 17, six months after the date of his first positive test.

Manchester City confident they have avoided TWO-window transfer ban
City could have been banned from signing players for up to two transfer windows had the ruling not gone in their favour. The court will publish the reasoned verdict on Friday.

The Mexican boxer twice tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug in February and was given his punishment at a hearing in Nevada on Wednesday.

The commission did not levy a fine against Alvarez because the May 5 rematch with Golovkin did not take place and, therefore, there was no purse. But with Alvarez suspended because of the positive test and so little time between the hearing and the fight promoters chose to cancel the bout. Those tests were administered in Mexico by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association.

Gennady Golovkin is fighting on Cinco de Mayo after all. The red-headed fighter is one of the most recognizable athletes in Mexico and one of the country's biggest sports heroes.

The undefeated Golovkin said after Alvarez withdrew from the fight that he still wanted to defend his titles May 5, but promoters have had trouble finding an opponent at the late date and have not announced a fight.
